| I was born in Bloomington, Illinois, where my father was a professor at Illinois Wesleyan University and where my mother taught early childhood education. When I was five, our family moved to Dallas, Texas, so my father could teach at Southern Methodist University. Two years later, my father accepted a Professorship at the University of California, San Diego, and we moved to Del Mar, California, where I spent the remainder of my childhood.
After graduating from Torrey Pines High School in 1978, I attended San Diego State University for two years before deciding to take a short break to work as a nanny, while performing in local theatre on the weekends. During this time I met John Crosbie, a local computer engineer, theatre patron and UK transplant.
In 1983, I returned to my studies and earned my degree in Visual and Performing Arts, with a minor in U. S. History, from UC San Diego, marrying John that same summer.
For the next few years I worked in the corporate sector, until September of 1990, when our first daughter was born. While Beatrice was young I worked part time for an event planning company. When Rebecca was born in 1992, I stopped working outside the home and became a full-time mother and school volunteer.
In 1994, John started his own computer engineering firm with colleagues from Fremont. In 1996, due to growth in the company, it became clear that we needed to make Fremont our home.
It was when we tried to enroll Beatrice at Parkmont Elementary that I first heard the term "OVERLOADING". Since then we have added two more daughters to our family ~ Abigail, born in 1997 and Annabelle, born in 1998. Our four daughters have attended seven different schools in Fremont (and one year-round school in Southern California). We have home-schooled and been overloaded.
Since we moved to Fremont in 1996, I have been involved in Fremont schools. I have made efforts to ensure that our students have a rich educational experience. I have worked hard to help teachers, staff and administrators get what they need to make their jobs easier so that they can continue to focus their energies on what they love -- Our Students! When I have disagreed with school or district policies I have worked to help change happen. When I have had ideas that I thought would improve our schools I have championed implementation. I have had the pleasure of working with many dedicated parents, teachers, staff and administrators for whom education is a passion. I would like the opportunity to continue this work as a member of the Fremont Unified School District Board of Education. With your support I hope to have that chance. |
